BGauss just launched the C12 MaxR with 178km range at Rs 1.46 lakh, undercutting established rivals. How does it compare with Ather, Ola, and TVS? We break down the numbers.
The electric scooter market in India just got more competitive. BGauss has launched the C12 MaxR at Rs 1,45,990 (ex-showroom) with an IDC-certified range of 178km — the longest range from the Pune-based manufacturer. But how does it stack up against the established players? Let's break it down.
The C12 MaxR uses a 3.8kWh LFP battery with an in-wheel motor producing 4.2kW peak power. Top speed is over 75 km/h. It gets a 5-inch TFT display, cruise control, four ride modes, and reverse mode. The in-wheel motor design is unique — most rivals use a hub or mid-drive motor mounted externally.
The Ather 450X is the benchmark for electric scooter dynamics. With the largest service network in the segment and the most refined software experience, it's the safest bet. The 450X offers up to 150km true range, and Ather's transparency in publishing real-world range figures alongside IDC numbers is industry-leading.
The Ola S1 Pro offers the most features for the money — largest touchscreen, most ride modes, and range up to 195km (IDC). However, service network coverage remains a concern outside major cities. Build quality has improved but still trails Ather and TVS in perceived solidity.
The iQube benefits from TVS's massive dealer network — if something goes wrong, help is never far. The ST variant offers 212km claimed range from its 5.1kWh battery. It's the most conservative choice but arguably the most practical.
For the longest range at the lowest price: BGauss C12 MaxR. For the best overall experience and software: Ather 450X. For maximum features: Ola S1 Pro. For peace of mind and service network: TVS iQube.
All four scooters cost under Rs 20 per full charge (domestic electricity rates), translating to under Rs 1.5 per km — roughly one-tenth the running cost of a 125cc petrol scooter.
