BYD will launch its luxury brand Denza in India on 13 November, with the D9 electric MPV expected to lead at around ₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh and the Z9 GT to follow.
BYD has confirmed that Denza, its luxury sub-brand, will make its India debut on 13 November 2026. The event is expected to bring both the D9 luxury MPV and the Z9 GT shooting brake, though BYD has so far confirmed only the date and not the product line-up or prices.
The strategy is straightforward. BYD already sells the Atto 3, Seal and Sealion 7 here, and all three compete in the mainstream premium bracket. Denza gives the company somewhere to go above ₹80 lakh, where the competition is Japanese, German and, in the electric MPV space, MG.

The D9 is the volume model of the two. It is a seven-seat MPV with powered sliding doors, and the version expected in India uses a 103.36 kWh Blade battery paired with a front-mounted motor producing 313 hp and 360 Nm. WLTP range for that configuration is quoted at 520 km, and DC charging is supported at up to 200 kW.
Inside, the D9 goes after the chauffeur-driven buyer: second-row captain's chairs with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, massage and extendable leg rests, three-zone climate control, a 14-speaker Dynaudio system, twin sunroofs and Level 2 ADAS. It is a direct answer to the MG M9, and a cheaper one than the Toyota Vellfire or the Lexus LM.
| Model | Body style | Battery and range | Price position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denza D9 | Seven-seat luxury MPV | 103.36 kWh, 520 km WLTP | ₹80-90 lakh expected |
| MG M9 | Seven-seat electric MPV | 90 kWh class, on sale now | ₹79.95 lakh |
| Toyota Vellfire | Seven-seat strong-hybrid MPV | 2.5-litre hybrid | ₹1.20 crore |
| Denza Z9 GT | Electric shooting brake | 122.5 kWh, 600 km WLTP | ₹1.2-1.5 crore expected |
If the D9 pays the bills, the Z9 GT exists to make the brand famous. It packs a 122.5 kWh battery, a triple-motor set-up producing a combined 1,156 hp, a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 2.7 seconds and a WLTP range of 600 km. BYD also claims charging at up to 1,500 kW, which would take the battery from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes on hardware that can deliver it.
It also does party tricks: a Compass Turn function that rotates the car on the spot, and a crab-walk mode that moves it sideways.

Tax is the simple answer. Battery electric vehicles attract 5 percent GST in India, while plug-in hybrids sit in a much higher slab. Denza's global line-up includes the DM-i plug-in hybrid D9, but the commercial case in India points firmly at the pure-electric version.
Both models are expected to arrive as full imports, and BYD is reported to be planning dedicated Denza showrooms in tier-1 and tier-2 cities rather than selling the brand out of existing BYD stores. Whether 13 November also brings prices is still open.

If you are in the market for a luxury MPV, the D9 is the first serious electric alternative to the Vellfire that does not cost Lexus money, and the equipment list reads better than the MG M9's for a similar price. The risk is not the car, it is the ownership experience: a full import with a new badge and a small service footprint is a leap of faith for a ₹90 lakh purchase.
