Land Rover Defender 110 Locally Assembled — Price Cut by Up to ₹34 Lakh, Now From ₹99 Lakh

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 29 Oct 2026 · Launch

JLR has begun assembling the Defender 110 in Pune, cutting prices by up to ₹34 lakh. The 2.0 petrol now starts at ₹99 lakh, with deliveries from 15 November.

Defender 110 Goes Local, and the Price List Changes Overnight

Jaguar Land Rover has begun assembling the Defender 110 at its Pune plant using completely knocked down kits shipped from Slovakia, and the price list has been rewritten in one stroke. The 3.0-litre petrol and 3.0-litre diesel X-Dynamic HSE variants now cost ₹1.18 crore ex-showroom, New Delhi, against ₹1.52 crore for the imported cars. That is ₹34 lakh, or roughly 22%, off the sticker. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol X-Dynamic HSE falls ₹14.5 lakh to ₹99 lakh.

The ₹99 lakh number is the one to remember. The Defender has not sat below ₹1 crore since it arrived here in October 2020, and it re-enters that bracket in the middle of the festive season.

You Get More Equipment, Not Less

Localisation has not been used to quietly strip the car. JLR has made 29 features standard on the 3.0-litre variants, equipment worth about ₹17 lakh that buyers previously paid extra for, including electronic air suspension, a head-up display, premium seating and the Meridian surround sound system. The 2.0-litre car picks up 17 features worth around ₹6.5 lakh, among them adaptive off-road cruise control, three-zone climate control and an air purifier.

What Stays Imported, and When You Can Buy

The rest of the family is unchanged. The three-door Defender 90, the long-wheelbase 130, the Octa and the V8 variants continue to arrive as fully imported vehicles, so the cheapest Defender in India is now also the only one built here. Bookings are open online and at the 32 Defender outlets across the country, and deliveries start on 15 November.

India is only the second country after Slovakia to assemble the Defender, and the Pune line has an installed capacity of 12,000 units a year. JLR says it has retailed more than 9,000 Defenders in India since 2020 and expects volumes to rise by about 20% on the back of the price cut. Managing director Rajan Amba has been blunt about the intent, describing the move as a way to narrow the gap with BMW in India's luxury rankings. About 95% of JLR India's volume is now locally produced.

What This Means for You

If you were quoted ₹1.52 crore for a Defender 110 earlier this month, the same car is now ₹34 lakh cheaper with more equipment, which is worth a fresh conversation with your dealer. The catch is that the cut applies only to the X-Dynamic HSE trim in the 110 body style, and the on-road bill on the ₹99 lakh car will sit well above the sticker once state road tax and insurance are added.
