A model-by-model guide to the car discounts on offer this Diwali 2026, from the Curvv EV's ₹3.35 lakh package to the ₹45,000 on a Nexon.
Every festive season brings a flood of headline discount figures, and most of them are misleading. The number a dealer quotes is almost never a straight cut in the price of the car. It is a bundle of a manufacturer-funded consumer offer, an exchange or scrappage bonus, a loyalty reward and the value of free accessories, and how much of that bundle you can actually claim depends on what you already drive, where you live and which variant is sitting in stock.
With Diwali falling on 8 November 2026, the buying window is now at its peak. Here is what each major brand is actually offering in October, model by model, so you can walk into a showroom knowing what to ask for.
Tata has put the largest benefits of any mainstream brand on its electric range. The Curvv EV leads the list with benefits of up to ₹3.35 lakh on variants built before the SeriesX update, made up of a cash discount and an exchange or scrappage bonus. The base Curvv EV Creative carries up to ₹2.85 lakh, while current SeriesX variants drop to about ₹65,000. The Harrier EV follows at up to ₹2.75 lakh on the Fearless and Empowered trims, and the Nexon EV gets up to ₹45,000 including a ₹10,000 green bonus.
| Model | Maximum benefit | Main components |
|---|---|---|
| Curvv EV (pre-SeriesX) | Up to ₹3.35 lakh | Cash, exchange or scrappage |
| Harrier EV | Up to ₹2.75 lakh | Intervention, exchange, loyalty |
| Curvv ICE (non-X) | Up to ₹1.25 lakh | Cash, loyalty, exchange or scrappage |
| Nexon petrol manual | Up to ₹75,000 | Cash, intervention, exchange or scrappage |
| Nexon CNG | Up to ₹60,000 | Cash, exchange or scrappage |
| Punch EV (pre-facelift) | Up to ₹1.45 lakh | Cash, exchange or scrappage |
| Altroz CNG | Up to ₹55,000 | Cash, intervention, exchange |
| Tiago (outgoing) | Up to ₹35,000 | Cash, OEM support, exchange |
Two models stand out for the wrong reason. Tata has listed no festive benefits at all on the new Aeris sedan or on the Punch ICE range, a sign that demand is running ahead of supply for both. If you are set on either, expect to pay close to list price.
Mahindra's October scheme is narrower and more stock-dependent. The Scorpio N Z8L seven-seat 4WD automatic gets the biggest package at up to ₹1.5 lakh, combining ₹1.25 lakh in cash with ₹25,000 of accessories. The 2WD automatic versions get ₹50,000 cash plus ₹25,000 of accessories, taking the total to ₹75,000.
| Model | Maximum benefit | Main components |
|---|---|---|
| Scorpio N Z8L 4WD AT | Up to ₹1.5 lakh | Cash plus accessories |
| Thar 4WD (pre-facelift) | Up to ₹80,000 | Price benefit plus accessories |
| XUV 3XO petrol | Up to ₹60,000 | Cash plus accessories |
| Scorpio Classic S11 | Up to ₹45,000 | Cash plus accessories |
| XUV400 EV EL Pro | ₹1 lakh cash | Straight cash discount |
Note what is missing. The Thar Roxx, BE 6 and XEV 9E are all excluded from Mahindra's standard nationwide festive scheme, which tells you the company does not need discounts to move them. Dealer-specific offers may still exist on these, so it is worth asking, but do not expect the headline numbers you see on the discounted models.
Maruti's Nexa line leans heavily on exchange, loyalty and road-tax benefits rather than plain cash. The Grand Vitara carries benefits of up to ₹1.36 lakh on select variants, and strong-hybrid versions add a road-tax saving of up to ₹1.85 lakh in applicable markets, though that is a tax benefit rather than a discount you can pocket. The Fronx gets up to ₹27,100 on the turbo-petrol, ₹22,100 on the 1.2 petrol and ₹15,000 on CNG. The XL6 offers up to ₹61,000 on petrol and ₹50,000 on CNG, while the Invicto carries up to ₹95,000.
Why are the biggest numbers always on electric cars? Partly because the government's green bonus and state-level incentives stack on top of manufacturer offers, and partly because dealers are clearing older, pre-update electric stock before newer versions arrive. The Curvv EV's ₹3.35 lakh package, for instance, applies only to variants built before the SeriesX update, not to the current line. That is a real saving, but it comes with the caveat that you are buying the older specification.
It is also worth remembering that electric cars attract lower running costs on top of the purchase benefit, so a big EV discount compounds over the years. If you can charge at home and drive more than 10,000 km a year, the combination of a festive benefit and cheap running can make an electric car cheaper to own than an equivalent petrol model within three to four years.

Across brands, the pattern is the same: the deepest discounts sit on mid and lower variants, not the top-spec ones. Entry and mid trims are where inventory is heaviest and where competition is sharpest. If you can live without the panoramic sunroof and the largest touchscreen, a mid variant with a strong discount often delivers the best value in the line-up, while top variants carrying the newest features rarely see the headline numbers.
It also pays to check the model year. A car built in 2025 and still sitting in stock will usually carry a larger benefit than an identical 2026-built one, and as long as the warranty and registration are handled correctly, the difference in the car itself is minimal.
Dealers increasingly structure benefits around finance. A low-interest loan, a waived processing fee or a cashback tied to a specific lender can be worth more than a straight discount, especially on a car priced above ₹10 lakh. Ask for the total cost of ownership under each finance route, not just the monthly EMI, because a longer tenure can quietly wipe out the value of a headline offer. If you are paying cash, push for a larger direct discount instead, since the dealer gives up less on a cash sale.
FADA's provisional Navratri data showed passenger vehicle retail down nearly 22% year on year, and dealers are sitting on more stock than they were in 2025. The result is a richer offer environment. Where a typical mid-size SUV came with benefits of roughly ₹45,000 to ₹65,000 last festive season, dealers are now bundling ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000, according to industry estimates, with accessory discounts and finance-linked schemes doing much of the work.
Not every offer is worth chasing. A discount on a car you did not want is not a saving, and two traps are common in the festive rush. The first is buying an older model year for a bigger discount when a facelifted version is only weeks away, which can hit resale value hard. The second is over-buying on variant, paying for features you will rarely use because the top trim happened to carry the best finance offer. Decide what you actually need before you look at the discount, not after.
It also helps to know when to walk away. If a dealer will not put the offer in writing, or if the discount quietly disappears once the trade-in valuation is adjusted, the deal is not as good as it looked. Festive-season pressure is real, but so is buyer leverage this year, given how much stock dealers are carrying. That balance of power is unlikely to last past Diwali.
Ask for the offer broken into its parts, in writing. A genuine cash discount reduces the ex-showroom price. An exchange or scrappage bonus depends on the vehicle you are trading in, and its value can be absorbed by a lower trade-in valuation, so check both numbers together. A loyalty benefit usually requires an existing vehicle from the same brand in your household. Accessories are worth only what you would have paid for them anyway.
Then look at the on-road price, not the ex-showroom one. Registration, insurance and road tax can swing the final figure by lakhs depending on your state. Our on-road price tool and EMI calculator will show you what the car actually costs to own, and the comparison tool will let you line up two variants side by side.
The single best move this Diwali is to book early and get the delivery date written on the receipt. Dhanteras and Diwali slots fill up first for popular variants and colours, and a great discount is worth little if the car arrives in December. If you are considering an electric car, the EV packages are genuinely the largest of the season and worth serious comparison against a petrol or hybrid alternative, but confirm whether the benefit applies to the current model year or to older stock. Finally, treat every quoted figure as negotiable, because this year the dealer has more reason to say yes than you have to say no.
