BYD's luxury brand Denza has teased the Z9 GT before its 13 November India debut, a 1,156hp electric shooting brake expected to cost ₹1.2 crore to ₹1.5 crore.
Denza, the luxury division of BYD, has released a teaser for the Z9 GT ahead of the brand's India launch on 13 November 2026. The video shows exterior and interior details of the shooting brake, which will be one of the first two Denza models to reach Indian showrooms alongside the D9 MPV.
Both cars will come in as fully built imports and are expected to be on sale by the end of 2026. Denza will retail through its own outlets rather than existing BYD dealerships, and the brand's range is expected to start at around ₹80 lakh.
| Denza Z9 GT | Specification |
|---|---|
| Powertrain | Three motors, one front and two rear |
| Combined output | 1,156hp |
| Battery | 122.5 kWh |
| Claimed range | 600 km (WLTP) |
| 0-100 kmph | 2.7 seconds |
| Top speed | 270 kmph |
| Expected India price | ₹1.2 crore to ₹1.5 crore |
Rajeev Chauhan, who heads BYD's electric vehicle business in India, has said the India-spec Denza models will not be stripped of features offered in China. That means electrically operated doors, heated, cooled and massaging seats, Level 2+ ADAS, rear-wheel steering and the five-screen cabin, two of which display feeds from camera-based mirrors.
Charging is the headline claim. Denza says its 1,500 kW Flash charger can take the pack from 10 to 97 per cent in nine minutes, a number that assumes hardware India does not yet have widely. On the chargers that exist here, the Z9 GT will charge at whatever rate the station can supply.
BYD already sells the Sealion 7 and other models here in the ₹50 lakh region. Denza gives it a second, higher-priced channel without disturbing the parent brand's pricing, and the separate showroom network is designed to keep the two apart. The D9 MPV will follow, aimed at buyers who want a chauffeur-driven electric alternative to a Toyota Vellfire or a Mercedes V-Class.
The risk is straightforward. At ₹1.2 crore and above, the Z9 GT is up against established luxury brands with decades of service infrastructure behind them, and Denza will start with a handful of outlets.
For most buyers this is a story to watch rather than act on. But the Z9 GT's arrival matters beyond its own price, because it pushes 800-volt architecture, rear-wheel steering and 1,000hp-plus powertrains into a market where German brands still charge extra for basics. Expect rivals to respond on equipment over the next 18 months.
