Hero MotoCorp launches the Glamour X 125 with integrated ABS at Rs 1.01 lakh — a first for the segment. This is part of a bigger trend: commuter bikes are finally getting serious about safety.
Hero MotoCorp has launched the Glamour X 125 with single-channel ABS paired with an Integrated Braking System (IBS) at Rs 1.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Hero claims this is the first motorcycle in the 125cc segment to get this combination. But this isn't just about one bike — it's about a segment-wide safety revolution that's been a long time coming.
The 125cc commuter segment is India's largest two-wheeler category by volume. Millions of riders use these bikes daily for work, school runs, and everything in between. Yet for years, safety features that car buyers take for granted — anti-lock brakes, traction control, even proper tyre grip — were absent from this price point.
The reason was cost. ABS hardware adds Rs 5,000-8,000 to a bike's price, and in a segment where Rs 2,000 decides a purchase, manufacturers chose not to spend it. That's changing because buyers are changing.
Today's 125cc buyer is younger, more informed, and rides in denser traffic than ever before. They've grown up with smartphones, they compare specs online, and they understand what ABS does — because YouTube has shown them lock-up crashes in slow motion. Hero's own research reflects this: the Glamour X already comes with cruise control and three ride modes (Eco, Road, Power) — features unthinkable on a commuter five years ago.
Hero's Chief Business Officer Ashutosh Varma called the integrated ABS launch 'reshaping the safety standards for the entire category.' That's marketing language, but it's also accurate — when the market leader adds a safety feature, competitors follow within 6-12 months.
Expect Bajaj, TVS, and Honda to respond. Bajaj already offers ABS on the Pulsar N160 and N250. TVS has the Apache RTR 160 4V with ABS. Honda's SP160 and Unicorn are next in line. The question isn't whether ABS becomes standard on 125cc bikes — it's when.
If you're buying a 125cc commuter in 2026, look for three things: ABS (single-channel is fine for this class), a disc brake on the front wheel, and tubeless tyres. The Glamour X ABS at Rs 1.01 lakh checks all three boxes. The drum and disc variants without ABS continue at Rs 89,999 and Rs 99,999 respectively — but spend the extra Rs 10,000 if you can. It's the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.
