Hyundai has revealed the fifth-generation Tucson with updated hybrid systems, but a confirmed India timeline is still missing even as Hyundai plans more hybrids here.
Hyundai has unveiled the fifth generation of its Tucson SUV in New York, with a more spacious cabin, updated hybrid systems and a design that pushes the model further upmarket. The new Tucson is expected to roll out in Korea later this year, with North America, Europe and other markets following in 2027. What Hyundai has not given is a confirmed India timeline.
The omission is notable because the Tucson matters to Hyundai's Indian line-up. It currently sits at the top of the brand's mass-market SUV range here, above the Creta and Alcazar, and a new generation would be the natural flagship for the company's expanding hybrid plans.
| Hyundai Tucson (India) | Current model |
|---|---|
| Price range | ₹27.31 lakh to about ₹33.6 lakh |
| Positioning | Above Creta and Alcazar |
| New generation | Revealed in New York; India timeline unconfirmed |
Hyundai India has said it will bring hybrids, with 8 of 26 planned launches by 2030 using the technology, and a new Tucson would suit that roadmap. The obstacle is tax. Under the September 2025 GST reset, hybrids above four metres sit in the 40 per cent slab and do not enjoy the 5 per cent rate that electric vehicles get. That makes it harder to price a hybrid Tucson attractively against diesel and petrol rivals.
There is a counterweight. The CAFE III norms that take effect in April 2027 reward electrified powertrains, giving carmakers a reason to absorb some of that cost in exchange for compliance benefits. Hyundai is already balancing those two forces across its line-up.
The old Tucson's weakness in India was never the car, it was the price and the shadow of the cheaper Creta. A new generation with hybrid power could sharpen its case, but only if Hyundai prices it sensibly and localises enough to compete. If you are shopping in the ₹30 lakh SUV space, the Tucson's arrival is worth waiting for, but do not expect a firm India date yet.
