Audi Q3 vs BMW X1 vs Mercedes-Benz GLA — Which Entry-Luxury SUV to Buy in India (October 2026)

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 14 Oct 2026 · News

The new Audi Q3 arrives on 16 October. We compare it with the BMW X1 LWB and Mercedes-Benz GLA on price, space, power and running costs for Indian buyers.

Audi Q3 vs BMW X1 vs Mercedes-Benz GLA — The 2026 Shootout

India's entry-luxury SUV segment is about to get its first genuinely new contender in years. The third-generation Audi Q3 goes on sale on 16 October 2026, and for buyers cross-shopping the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA this Diwali, the timing could not be sharper. All three are locally assembled, all three sit between roughly ₹50 lakh and ₹60 lakh, and each makes a different argument for your money.

Here is the honest comparison: what each car gives you, where it falls short, and who should buy which one.

The New Audi Q3: What You Get

The 2026 Q3 is a proper generational change, not a facelift. It grows in every direction, with a 4,531 mm length, a 2,681 mm wheelbase and 488 litres of boot space, all of which should mean a roomier rear bench and a more stable highway ride. The cabin moves to a dual-screen layout with a 12.8-inch touchscreen and an 11.9-inch digital cluster, and the gear selector has moved to a stalk behind the wheel.

Under the bonnet there is a single option: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol making 201 bhp and 320 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and Audi's quattro all-wheel drive as standard. Audi quotes a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.1 seconds and a 229 km/h top speed. Two variants are expected, Nova and Zenith, with the higher trim adding matrix LED headlights, a head-up display, nine airbags and a Sonos sound system.

The catch is price. Local assembly at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant helps, but the new Q3 is expected to start around ₹55 lakh and stretch toward ₹60 lakh ex-showroom, a clear step up from the outgoing car's ₹43.67 lakh to ₹53 lakh band. Final pricing lands on launch day, so treat that as an estimate.

The BMW X1 is sold in long-wheelbase form in India

BMW X1 LWB: The Space and Value Play

The BMW X1 has quietly become the sensible choice in this group. In India it is sold in long-wheelbase form, which pays off where it matters most for chauffeur-driven and family buyers — rear legroom. At about ₹49.90 lakh for the sDrive18i, it also undercuts both rivals on paper.

Its petrol engine is the least powerful here, at roughly 154 bhp, so it is not the enthusiast's pick. But the X1's appeal is a well-rounded package: strong space, BMW's connected cabin, and a price that leaves room for options. If your priority is a badge that the whole family can live with daily, this is the value-led answer.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is the most style-led of the three

Mercedes-Benz GLA: The Style-Led Choice

The GLA is the smallest and the most style-forward of the three. Its petrol GLA 200 makes about 163 bhp, sitting neatly between the X1 and the Q3, and prices run from roughly ₹51.80 lakh to ₹55 lakh. The cabin design and the brand's showroom experience are its strongest cards.

The trade-offs are real. Rear space is the tightest of the three, and the petrol range is narrower than what BMW or Audi offer. If you drive yourself and value design and badge above outright space, the GLA still makes sense. If you regularly carry adults in the back, its limitations will show.

Running Costs and Ownership

All three are turbo-petrol SUVs, so fuel bills will be broadly similar in day-to-day use, in the 8 to 12 kmpl range depending on traffic and driving style. The bigger differences lie in service costs and resale. Audi and Mercedes have historically commanded higher spare-part and service pricing than BMW in India, while resale value for all three is strong thanks to badge demand, though the X1's lower entry price tends to give it a gentler depreciation curve in rupee terms.

Cost factorWhat to expect
Real-world mileage8-12 kmpl for all three turbo-petrols
Service intervalsAnnual or about 15,000 km

ResaleStrong for all; X1 depreciates least in rupees

Which Should You Buy?

If you drive yourself and want the newest technology, standard all-wheel drive and the strongest engine, the new Audi Q3 is the clear enthusiast's pick — provided the final price does not drift too far past ₹55 lakh. If you want the most usable family SUV for the money, the BMW X1 LWB remains the smart buy, with the best rear space and the lowest entry price. And if design and badge matter most and you rarely carry passengers in the back, the Mercedes-Benz GLA still holds its ground.

One practical note: all three are launching or selling into a festive market where dealers are keen to close deals. Compare the final on-road price, not just the ex-showroom sticker, and check insurance and service packages. The Q3's price is the swing factor here — if Audi lands it close to ₹55 lakh, it will put real pressure on both German rivals.
