BMW India launches the i5 Long Wheelbase at Rs 79.60 lakh. First locally produced electric sedan from BMW with 669km range, built at Chennai plant.
BMW India has launched the i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) at an introductory price of Rs 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This is BMW's first locally produced electric sedan in India, manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Chennai. Deliveries have already commenced.
The i5 eDrive35L M Sport and the limited-run First Edition are both priced at Rs 79.60 lakh. All 99 units of the First Edition were sold out before the official launch, indicating strong demand for luxury EVs in India.
The i5 LWB is powered by an 81.6kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor producing 268bhp and 410Nm. It accelerates from 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195kmph. BMW claims a range of up to 669km on the MIDC cycle. DC fast charging at up to 160kW charges the battery from 10 to 80% in 33 minutes. BMW also provides a complimentary wallbox charger with installation.
At 5,175mm long with a 3,105mm wheelbase, the i5 LWB is one of the largest cars in its segment. The extended wheelbase is designed specifically for rear-seat space and chauffeur-focused comfort. It features adaptive rear-axle air suspension tuned for Indian road conditions, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, 14.9-inch central touchscreen, BMW Interaction Bar, and a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof.
With the i5 LWB, i7, and iX already in the lineup, BMW now has one of the strongest local EV production stories in India's luxury segment.
