Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Bayon at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, and the debut carries real weight for India. The Bayon is a 4.2-metre SUV that Hyundai Motor India has already confirmed for a festive-season launch, and it has been positioned to slot into the crowded space between the sub-four-metre Venue and the midsize Creta. India bookings opened on 23 September at a token ₹11,000, which tells you Hyundai is treating this as a mainstream volume car rather than a niche import.
At 4.2 metres, the Bayon is deliberately larger than the Venue but smaller than the Creta. Hyundai calls the design language "Art of Steel", with a sculpted bonnet, H-Edge LED daytime running lights, geometric wheel arches and bridge-type roof rails. The car is built on what Hyundai terms the Global K Enhanced Platform, engineered for five-star Indian safety standards, and the company has flagged five pillars for the model: intelligence, safety, comfort, performance and style.
The headline feature is an in-built generative-AI voice assistant, which Hyundai is pitching as more natural than fixed voice commands. Expected equipment includes a dual-screen dashboard, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof, though the final variant list is yet to be confirmed.
Hyundai has confirmed a petrol powertrain with manual and IVT automatic options. The widely expected unit is the Creta's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, good for roughly 113-115 hp and 144 Nm. A factory CNG version is also anticipated, potentially with an underbody tank to protect boot space.
| Model | Length and position | Price range (ex-showroom) |
|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Venue | Sub-4m compact SUV | ₹8.00 - 13.55 lakh |
| Hyundai Bayon | 4.2m SUV, between Venue and Creta | ₹9.79 - 15.49 lakh (expected) |
| Hyundai Creta | Midsize SUV | ₹10.91 - 20.20 lakh |
The Bayon's real challenge is overlap. Well-equipped sub-compact SUVs and base midsize SUVs already sit close on price, and Hyundai risks cannibalising both the Venue and the Creta. Everything now hinges on how aggressively the Bayon is priced and how generously it is equipped at entry level. If the base variant lands near ₹10 lakh with six airbags and ADAS, it becomes a serious rival to the segment leaders. Expect a full India price list and variant breakdown at the local launch this festive season.
