Hyundai will launch the Bayon in India on October 26 with a Perplexity-powered AI voice assistant, dual 12.3-inch screens and a 1.5L petrol engine. Bookings are open at ₹11,000.
Hyundai Motor India will launch the Bayon in India on October 26, 2026, with bookings already open at ₹11,000 through dealerships and the company website. The new SUV slots between the Venue and the Creta, a gap Hyundai has watched rivals fill for two years. Rather than pitch it as just another compact SUV, Hyundai calls the Bayon an Intelligent Utility Vehicle and has loaded it with software features that few rivals in the price band currently offer.

The headline addition is Hyundai's first generative AI voice assistant in India, built with Intelligence by Perplexity and Voice AI from SoundHound AI. Unlike the fixed-command systems most cars use, it is designed to hold a conversation: ask it to plan a road trip, pull up the weather, find a hotel or suggest a restaurant, and it responds in natural language. The assistant works in English, while more than 500 embedded voice commands cover English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu without needing an internet connection.

Inside, the Bayon gets a curved panoramic panel with two 12.3-inch displays, one for the instrument cluster and one for infotainment, running Hyundai's NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit. The system supports online navigation, split-screen layouts, individual user profiles and smartphone-like quick controls. Hyundai also offers over-the-air updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers, so software fixes and feature additions can arrive without a workshop visit, plus more than 70 Bluelink connected-car functions including remote start and stop.

Under the bonnet there is one option for now: Hyundai's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, the same unit used in the Creta, producing 115 PS and 144 Nm. Buyers choose between a six-speed manual and Hyundai's IVT automatic. A factory-fitted CNG version is expected later, though the company has not confirmed a timeline. Safety equipment is expected to include six airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring and Level 2 ADAS on higher trims.
The Bayon's success will hinge on pricing, which Hyundai will announce on October 26. If it lands in the ₹10 lakh to ₹16 lakh range, it will undercut a fully loaded Creta while offering more cabin technology, and will sit squarely against the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and the Kia Seltos. Expect it to overlap its own siblings, the Venue and Creta, a risk Hyundai has accepted in exchange for covering a wider slice of India's fastest-growing segment. Once prices are out, compare it against rivals on our comparison tool and work out the monthly outgo on the EMI calculator.
