Kawasaki has revealed the Z300 street naked in India, likely using the Ninja 300's 296cc twin, with bookings opening on 19 October and full details on 20 October.
Kawasaki has revealed the Z300, a new entry-level street naked that will sit at the bottom of its Z range in India. The bike was shown at a private event in Bangalore, and Kawasaki will repeat the preview for Mumbai and Pune on 18 October. Bookings open on 19 October, while the full specification, variants and price will be published on Kawasaki's India website on 20 October.
The Z300 is expected to use the same 296cc parallel-twin engine as the Ninja 300, producing around 39 hp and 26.1 Nm through a six-speed gearbox. Unlike the Ninja's semi-digital cluster, the Z300 gets a full TFT instrument panel with smartphone connectivity. It will come in two colours, Green and Black.
| Model | Engine | Peak power | Ex-showroom price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kawasaki Ninja 300 | 296cc parallel-twin | 39 hp | Rs 3.34 lakh |
| Kawasaki Z300 (expected) | 296cc parallel-twin | 39 hp | Expected under Rs 3 lakh |
| TVS Apache RTR 310 | 312cc single-cylinder | 35.6 hp | From Rs 2.30 lakh |
The Z300 gives Indian buyers a multi-cylinder Kawasaki at a price point that has been dominated by single-cylinder machines. If Kawasaki can keep it under Rs 3 lakh ex-showroom, it will offer twin-cylinder refinement against rivals such as the KTM 390 Duke and the TVS Apache RTR 310, both of which are cheaper but only single-cylinder.
Kawasaki has also confirmed that the BMW F 450 RR will be revealed on 15 October, so October is turning into a busy month for premium two-wheelers in India. Both launches signal that global brands are treating India as a launch market rather than a follow-up one.
For Kawasaki, the Z300 is also a volume play. The brand's India range has long been seen as premium and expensive, and a sub-Rs 3 lakh naked gives it a way to reach younger riders who want the badge and the twin-cylinder feel without stepping up to a Z650. The addition of a TFT dash with connectivity is aimed at exactly that buyer, who expects smartphone pairing and navigation as standard.
The flip side is that the Z300 is a styling and positioning exercise more than a new platform. It shares its engine and underpinnings with the Ninja 300, so riders who already know that bike know what to expect: smooth, refined and forgiving rather than outright fast. That is a sensible recipe for a first big bike, and it keeps servicing and spares predictable.
If you want a twin-cylinder street bike without the faired Ninja's price, the Z300 is worth waiting for the 20 October price announcement. Compare it against the Apache RTR 310 and KTM 390 Duke on our Compare tool, and check current two-wheeler prices and reviews under Brands. Our News section will carry the full price and spec sheet as soon as Kawasaki publishes it.
