Maruti Suzuki's pre-owned arm True Value has marked 25 years and 65 lakh cumulative car sales through 662 outlets across 338 Indian cities.
Maruti Suzuki has marked 25 years of its pre-owned car business, True Value, which entered the organised used-car market in 2001 and has now sold more than 65 lakh cars cumulatively. The network today runs 662 retail outlets across 338 cities, giving it a reach that no rival organised pre-owned chain in India can match.

The milestone is significant because India's used-car market has historically been dominated by unorganised dealers and private sales, where buyers had little assurance about a car's history. True Value helped change that by introducing structured vehicle evaluation, certification and warranty support, practices that are now industry benchmarks.
| Metric | True Value today |
|---|---|
| Years in operation | 25 (since 2001) |
| Cumulative sales | Over 65 lakh cars |
| Retail outlets | 662 |
| Cities covered | 338 |
| Financing | Maruti Suzuki Smart Finance |
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, said the business had been built to make pre-owned ownership more trusted, transparent and accessible. The company also flagged a shift in its customer base, with young, first-time buyers making up a steadily rising share of True Value purchases.
True Value's model rests on three pillars: a multi-point inspection, verification of a car's documentation and service history, and a warranty that travels with the car. Maruti also connects buyers to lenders through its Smart Finance portal, which matters because used-car loans are often harder to secure than new-car finance. That combination has made certified pre-owned cars one of the fastest-growing slices of India's used-car market, a market that is now larger than the new-car market by volume.

For a buyer today, the True Value milestone is a reminder that the organised used-car market has matured. A certified pre-owned car typically comes with a multi-point inspection, verified service history and a warranty, which reduces the risk that defined the open market for decades. That assurance comes at a price, since certified cars usually cost more than a comparable private sale.
The bigger story is structural. As new-car prices climb and affordability tightens, more Indian buyers are turning to pre-owned cars, and Maruti's 65 lakh figure shows just how large that shift has become. Online platforms such as Cars24, Spinny and CarDekho have attacked the same opportunity from the digital side, while Maruti's advantage is its physical network and the pull of its own brand. For a first-time buyer, the practical question is whether the premium charged for a certified car is worth the assurance it buys, and for most people with limited knowledge of cars, it usually is.
The next decade will test whether that trust model holds as more electric and hybrid cars enter the used market, bringing new questions about battery health and software updates that a conventional inspection cannot answer. Maruti's 25-year head start gives it the scale to figure that out first. You can gauge what a used car is worth using our car valuation tool, and browse the full new-car lineup on the brands page.
