Maruti has launched Swift, Dzire and Baleno CNG automatics from ₹7.92 lakh. Dzire claims 36.47 km/kg, India's most fuel-efficient sedan. Full prices inside.
Maruti Suzuki has launched automatic S-CNG versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno under its new Auto Green Mission, pairing the company's factory-fitted CNG technology with its five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission for the first time across these three models. The move targets city buyers who want two-pedal convenience without giving up the low running costs that make CNG popular in the first place.
| Model (CNG automatic) | Starting price (ex-showroom) | Claimed efficiency | Premium over CNG manual |
| Maruti Swift | ₹7.92 lakh | 35.34 km/kg | ₹35,000 |
| Maruti Dzire | ₹8.53 lakh | 36.47 km/kg | ₹35,000 |
| Maruti Baleno | ₹8.32 lakh | 34.47 km/kg | ₹40,000 |
The headline claim belongs to the Dzire: at 36.47 km/kg, Maruti says the Dzire automatic S-CNG is now India's most fuel-efficient sedan, certified under Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules and validated by JATO Dynamics data dated 18th September 2026. The Swift CNG automatic is available in VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi trims, the Dzire in VXi and ZXi, and the Baleno in Delta and Zeta.
All three cars use the 1.2-litre Z12E engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing and Idle Start Stop, mated to the five-speed AGS unit. In petrol mode it produces 82.93 PS and 112.4 Nm, while in CNG mode output stands at 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm. The setup carries a 37-litre petrol tank and a 55-litre (water capacity) CNG cylinder, with an Intelligent Injection System, stainless-steel piping and a microswitch that prevents the engine from starting during refuelling.
Demand for the S-CNG range is rising sharply. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki, said S-CNG sales grew 58 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, and the company recorded its highest-ever monthly S-CNG volume in July. He described the automatic S-CNG range as the best of both worlds for aspirational city customers.
CNG buyers no longer have to choose between an automatic gearbox and low running costs. At roughly ₹35,000-40,000 over the CNG manual, the AGS variants pay for themselves quickly for heavy city commuters, though boot space remains the trade-off with the boot-mounted cylinder.
