Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Launched in India at ₹1.45 Crore — 603 bhp and 80 km of Electric Range

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 17 Oct 2026 · Technology

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ at ₹1.45 crore, combining a 3.0-litre turbo inline-six with an electric motor for up to 603 bhp and an 80-90 km electric-only range.

AMG Goes Hybrid in India

Mercedes-Benz India has expanded its performance line-up with the AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, priced at ₹1.45 crore (ex-showroom) for the standard model and ₹1.48 crore for the Racing Edition. It is a statement car as much as a fast one: under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six paired with an electric motor, and the combination signals where AMG sees the future of fast sedans in a market with tightening emissions rules.

On paper, the numbers are serious. The car produces 577 bhp in normal operation and up to 603.6 bhp in Race Start mode, while still offering an electric-only range of roughly 80 to 90 km. That is enough to cover a typical city commute without waking the six-cylinder at all, and it is precisely the flexibility that Mercedes-Benz India believes luxury buyers are willing to pay a premium for.

The E 53's cabin is deliberately tuned for long-distance comfort rather than the stripped-out, track-focused interiors of some earlier AMG generations. That is a considered choice: India's performance-sedan buyers tend to use their cars daily, so a usable electric mode and a comfortable ride broaden the appeal beyond the hardcore enthusiast.

Why This Matters for the Luxury Market

India's luxury market is increasingly split three ways — petrol, hybrid and electric — and Mercedes-Benz has been vocal about plug-in hybrids as a bridge technology. The E 53 Hybrid lets the company sell high-performance motoring without the range anxiety that still worries some buyers, while keeping a foot in both camps as charging infrastructure matures. It also arrives as luxury brands navigate a choppy currency environment that has pushed prices up across the board.

For buyers weighing an electrified performance car, our Compare tool and EV running-cost calculator help put the hybrid versus electric argument into rupee terms, and the on-road price estimator shows what you actually pay once taxes are added.

What This Means for You

If you want AMG pace but do most of your driving in the city, the E 53 Hybrid is arguably the most rational fast Mercedes on sale — the electric mode quietly handles the school run, and the six-cylinder takes over when the road opens up. The catch is price and complexity: two powertrains mean more to maintain, and the on-road figure will sit well above the sticker once state taxes and insurance are added. Test the electric-only range against your actual daily commute before deciding it replaces a pure EV.
