By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 4 Oct 2026 · Electric

Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC Electric in India on 4 November with a 94kWh battery, up to 715km WLTP range and local assembly at Chakan, Pune.

Mercedes' Electric SUV for the Masses

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the GLC Electric will launch in India on 4 November 2026, with bookings opening in the first week of October. The luxury electric SUV will be locally assembled at Mercedes-Benz's Chakan facility in Pune, and the company says it will reach India only about six months after European sales began, making it one of the fastest global Mercedes models to arrive here as a locally built vehicle.

The India-spec model will initially arrive in the GLC 400 4MATIC configuration, with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and a 94kWh NMC battery. Combined output is reported at around 489bhp and 800Nm, and the claimed WLTP range is up to 715km. The SUV supports DC charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes says actual range will vary with speed, temperature, terrain and use of climate control, as with any electric car.

Why Local Assembly Is the Real Story

Building the GLC Electric in India matters more than the spec sheet suggests. Local assembly helps Mercedes manage import duties and currency exposure, which in turn makes aggressive pricing possible. The GLC nameplate is one of Mercedes' highest-volume lines in India, so electrifying it and assembling it here signals that the company expects the electric version to sell in meaningful numbers rather than remain a niche flagship. It also puts pressure on rivals to localise their own electric SUVs faster.

What This Means for You

Mercedes has not announced the India price, but industry estimates point to around ₹80-90 lakh ex-showroom. It will take on the BMW iX, Audi Q6 e-tron and the incoming Volvo EX90. If you are shopping in the luxury electric SUV bracket, it is worth waiting for the 4 November announcement to see the final variants and price.
