Mercedes-Benz has opened bookings for the GLC Electric ahead of its 4 November launch, with local assembly, a 94kWh battery and a claimed 715km range.
Mercedes-Benz India has opened bookings for the GLC Electric across its dealership network, ahead of a confirmed launch on 4 November 2026. The electric SUV will be sold here in the GLC 400 4Matic specification and, crucially, will be locally assembled at Mercedes-Benz's Chakan plant near Pune rather than imported. That local assembly should help Mercedes price it more competitively than a fully built import, and it follows the company's claim that the GLC Electric will arrive in India within six months of its European introduction.
In international specification, the GLC 400 4Matic pairs a 94kWh battery with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing around 490hp and 800Nm, enough for a claimed 0-100kph time of 4.3 seconds. Mercedes claims a WLTP range of up to 715km, and DC fast charging at up to 330kW, which it says can add up to 300km of range in about 10 minutes under suitable conditions. Air suspension and rear-axle steering are standard internationally.
Inside, the GLC Electric gets a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which Mercedes says is the largest display it has fitted to a production car, integrating the driver's display, infotainment and a passenger screen. Notably, it retains physical controls on the steering wheel and centre console rather than going fully touchscreen. Mercedes has not announced the India price, but estimates point to ₹80-90 lakh ex-showroom.
| Model | Range (claimed) | Power | Expected price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric | 715 km (WLTP) | ~490 hp | ₹80-90 lakh |
| BMW iX3 LWB (2027) | To be announced | To be announced | Expected 2027 |
| Hyundai Ioniq 5 | 690 km (ARAI) | 217 hp | Around ₹55.70 lakh |
| Volvo XC40 Recharge | 418 km (WLTP) | 408 hp | ₹54.95 - 67.16 lakh |
The GLC Electric's most direct future rival is the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027. By launching locally assembled in November 2026, Mercedes gets roughly a year's head start in the locally built luxury electric SUV space, and local assembly gives it a pricing lever that an imported iX3 will not have initially. Mercedes also says its new CLA EV has already crossed 1,000 confirmed orders in India, and its battery-electric sales rose 16 per cent in the January to September period, signs that luxury EV demand here is warming.
If you are shopping in the ₹80-90 lakh luxury electric SUV bracket, the GLC Electric's combination of a long claimed range, local assembly and Mercedes' service network makes it a serious contender, though the real range in Indian conditions will be lower than the WLTP figure. The lack of a confirmed price until launch means it is worth waiting for the 4 November announcement before comparing it against the BMW iX3 and the established Volvo and Hyundai options.
