JSW MG Motor India launches the Hector Tomahawk in both EV and PHEV variants with Battery-as-a-Service pricing. EV starts at ₹13.99L + ₹4.90/km, PHEV at ₹21.79L + ₹3.20/km. 517km EV range and 115km pure-electric PHEV range.
JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk in both fully electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, marking a significant shift in India's SUV landscape. The Hector Tomahawk EV starts at an introductory Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) price of ₹13.99 lakh plus ₹4.90 per kilometre battery rental, while the PHEV variant opens at ₹21.79 lakh plus ₹3.20 per kilometre.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is India's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in its segment. It combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery pack, offering more than 115 km of pure-electric driving range. This means you can commute entirely on electric power during the week and switch to petrol for longer weekend trips without range anxiety.
The fully electric variant is powered by a 69.2 kWh MAGIC Battery with a certified range of 517 km. MG has subjected the battery to extensive safety testing and is offering a lifetime battery warranty to the first owner of both variants — a bold statement of confidence in battery longevity.
The BaaS pricing model separates the vehicle cost from the battery cost. You pay ₹13.99L for the EV vehicle and then pay ₹4.90 per kilometre driven as battery rental. This significantly lowers the upfront purchase price and shifts the battery risk to MG. For the PHEV, the rate is ₹3.20 per kilometre.
For a typical urban driver covering 1,000 km per month, the EV variant would cost approximately ₹4,900 per month in battery rental — comparable to what you'd spend on petrol for a conventional SUV. The difference is that you're also paying much less for electricity to charge at home.
The Hector Tomahawk is built on MG's Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT) — described as India's first dedicated Multi-New Energy Vehicle platform. This means the same platform can support EV, PHEV, and potentially other powertrain configurations, giving MG flexibility to adapt as the Indian market evolves.
The SUV comes with a 15.6-inch HD infotainment display, connected-car technology, panoramic roof, and advanced safety features. One of the most interesting additions is Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) capability — the Hector Tomahawk's battery can power appliances and even your home during a power cut, essentially functioning as a large backup generator.
The Hector Tomahawk's pricing strategy is aggressive. At ₹13.99L for the EV (before BaaS), it undercuts most electric SUVs in India. The PHEV variant addresses the range anxiety that has held back EV adoption in India — you get electric driving for daily commutes and petrol backup for highway trips. This dual approach could be the bridge that Indian buyers have been waiting for.
MG's positioning is clear: they're not asking you to choose between electric and petrol. They're offering both in one platform, at a price point that makes the transition to electric mobility financially viable for the first time in the premium SUV segment.
