Ola Electric Rights Issue Record Date Today — 13,451 September Sales and an Open SEBI Probe

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 13 Oct 2026 · Electric

Ola Electric's Rs 1,000-crore rights issue has a 13 October record date, as its September registrations slipped to 13,451 units and a SEBI show-cause notice stays open.

The Money and the Market

Ola Electric's Rs 1,000-crore rights issue has its record date on 13 October, meaning shareholders on the register by then can subscribe. The board has fixed the price at Rs 27 a share, about 26 percent below the market price, payable in two calls: 60 percent, or Rs 16.20, on application, and the rest later. Holders get two shares for every 25 they own. The issue follows a Rs 780-crore qualified institutional placement in June, taking the year's fundraising to about Rs 1,780 crore if fully subscribed.

The company has said roughly Rs 350 crore will go towards repaying or prepaying borrowings and Rs 400 crore towards research, manufacturing and sales infrastructure. Founder Bhavish Aggarwal has pledged a 4.32 percent stake, or 20 crore shares, to fund his own subscription, and the company maintains no shares are being sold.

Sales Tell the Harder Story

The fundraising lands against a shrinking position. Ola registered 13,451 electric two-wheelers in September, down about 3 percent year on year, even as the overall electric two-wheeler market grew 89 percent to 2,07,314 units. That put Ola fifth, behind TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Hero Vida. For April to September, its share was roughly 8 percent, against about 17 percent a year earlier.

Ather30,533+55.6 percent
Hero Vida24,321+83.3 percent

Financially, the June quarter brought a narrowing net loss of Rs 336 crore from Rs 428 crore a year earlier, but revenue fell 45 percent to Rs 455 crore. Free cash outflow widened to Rs 351 crore.

The Regulatory Overhang

Ola's letter of offer also details regulatory scrutiny. The company says its internally tracked operational metrics, including sales volumes, are not independently verified and may contain errors. A SEBI show-cause notice dated 10 April concerns disclosures on February 2025 sales, the expansion of stores and service centres, and the timelines for its Roadster motorcycles. Ola and Aggarwal filed a settlement application on 8 June that remained pending. The allegations have not been established.

What This Means for Buyers

For a buyer, the funding news matters less than what it buys. Ola's plan leans on the S1 Z, priced from Rs 79,999, to fight back at the affordable end. The risk is that rivals are moving downmarket too, and they bring wider service networks. If you are comparing electric scooters, weigh dealer and service coverage as heavily as price. Ola still has the strongest brand recall in the segment, and the fresh capital gives it room to keep fighting. Whether that converts into share will show up in the October and November registration numbers, not in the fundraising headline.
