By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 27 Sept 2026 · Technology

Renault Duster Hybrid launches in India on 17 October 2026 with a 160hp E-Tech strong-hybrid powertrain, 1.4kWh battery and an 8-speed DHT automatic gearbox.

Renault Duster Hybrid India Launch Date Confirmed for 17 October

Renault India has confirmed that the Duster Hybrid will launch on 17 October 2026, adding a strong-hybrid powertrain to the Duster range for the first time. The launch invite carries a pointed message for diesel loyalists: "Dear diesel, thank you for the ride. We will take it from here."

The Hybrid E-Tech 160 system pairs a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery, producing a combined 160hp and 172Nm. Drive goes to the front wheels through an 8-speed DHT automatic gearbox — a mechanically different approach from the e-CVT systems used by Toyota and Maruti, using dog clutches and a multi-mode layout rather than a planetary power-split. Renault says the system can run on electric power for up to 80 percent of city driving, which is where the fuel savings accumulate, and the company's India site already lists the E-Tech 160 as a confirmed India-spec powertrain.

The current Duster range is priced between ₹10.49 lakh and ₹18.49 lakh ex-showroom, and the hybrid is expected to sit between ₹19 lakh and ₹23 lakh, which would make it one of the most affordable strong hybrids in the country. Renault claims the first batch is already sold out before prices have even been announced, and fresh bookings are currently paused — the company says a new booking window could open based on the response.

The competitive significance is larger than one model. The Duster Hybrid becomes the fourth strong-hybrid offering in the midsize SUV segment, joining the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Victoris. That matters because strong hybrids routinely deliver 20-plus kmpl in real-world city driving without ever needing a charging point, and the segment's sales chart needs the help: strong hybrids sold 57,885 units in the first half of 2026, essentially flat year-on-year, while electric cars grew 79 percent over the same period.

What this means for you: if you are cross-shopping midsize SUVs this festive season and your running is city-heavy, the 17 October price announcement is worth waiting for before you sign anything — a ₹19 lakh entry point would undercut every strong-hybrid SUV on sale today. Our guide to whether strong hybrids actually save you money, with full running-cost math, is at AUTOINDIA, and you can compare the Duster against its hybrid rivals on the Compare page.

That's the last card for duster to get sales increase and give compeition to segment leaders. what you think will sales increases or not ?
