TVS, Bajaj and Vida Now Control 62% of India's Electric Two-Wheeler Market

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 1 Oct 2026 · Electric

VAHAN data for the first 28 days of September 2026 shows TVS, Bajaj and Hero's Vida together held 61.8% of electric two-wheeler registrations, as Ola Electric slipped to about 6%.

Incumbents Tighten Their Grip on Electric Scooters

The electric two-wheeler market is consolidating around the established names. According to VAHAN data for the first 28 days of September 2026, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp-backed Vida together accounted for 61.8 per cent of electric two-wheeler registrations, up from 59.5 per cent in August and 60.6 per cent in July. The three traditional internal-combustion players are leaning on their dealer networks, manufacturing scale and after-sales reach to pull ahead of EV-first brands.

TVS remained the largest player with a 26.4 per cent share, followed by Bajaj at 23.6 per cent and Vida at 11.7 per cent. On the other side, Ather Energy held about 14.7 per cent and Ola Electric, once the market leader, slipped to roughly 6.4 per cent, down from 7.6 per cent in August.

The Volume Story Behind the Shares

The pie itself is growing fast. VAHAN recorded 1.88 lakh electric two-wheeler registrations between 1 and 28 September, already higher than the 1.83 lakh recorded in the whole of August. Bajaj's Chetak gained about 140 basis points month on month and Vida added roughly 150, while Ather lost around 80 basis points and Ola fell the sharpest among the majors.

Ather's new mass-market Konarc, priced from Rs 99,999 nationally and cheaper in Delhi under the state EV subsidy, went on sale on 21 September, so its real impact will only show from October. You can follow how that race develops on AUTOINDIA's EV coverage.

What This Means for You

For a buyer, the shift towards incumbents is mostly reassuring: TVS, Bajaj and Hero have dense service networks, which is the single biggest worry people raise about electric scooters. Ola's shrinking share is a reminder to check a brand's service footprint and spare-parts availability, not just its price and claimed range, before you book.
