TVS Motor will raise electric scooter capacity to over 50,000 units a month as August EV penetration hit 10.7 per cent and TVS EV registrations jumped 90 per cent YoY. Festive Apache and Ronin updates too.
TVS Motor Company, India's largest electric two-wheeler maker, plans to raise its monthly EV production capacity from the current 40,000-45,000 units to more than 50,000 units within the next three to four months, with a further increase possible in the January-March quarter. The ramp-up comes as electric two-wheeler penetration in the industry climbed to 10.7 per cent in August 2026, up from 6.6 per cent in February, before the West Asia crisis pushed fuel-price concerns to the top of buyers' minds.
| Metric | Figure | Detail |
| TVS EV registrations, August 2026 | 48,938 units | Up 90% YoY from 25,646 units |
| Industry e2W penetration | 10.7% (August) | 6.7% year-to-date last year |
| Planned monthly EV capacity | 50,000+ units | From 40,000-45,000 now |
| TVS domestic 2W sales, Apr-Aug | 20,15,314 units | Up 26.63% YoY, per SIAM |
TVS sold 5,91,437 two-wheelers in August across domestic and export markets, its highest-ever August volume, overtaking Honda and Hero in the month. For April-August, its domestic two-wheeler sales rose 26.63 per cent to 20,15,314 units against an industry that grew 18.74 per cent to 96,23,709 units, lifting TVS's domestic share to 20.94 per cent from 19.64 per cent, per SIAM data. The company, which became the world's third-largest two-wheeler maker last calendar year, also flagged supply-chain work on alternative motor technologies to reduce dependence on semiconductors and rare-earth magnets.
The announcements came alongside festive-season updates across the Apache RTR 160, RTR 160 4V, RTR 200 4V, Apache 310 series and Ronin, priced between ₹1,27,990 and ₹2,87,790 ex-showroom Delhi, adding traction control, TFT displays with Google Map mirroring and keyless operation. TVS said the premium and super-premium motorcycle segment, 150 cc and above, is growing at over 22 per cent and now makes up 27 per cent of motorcycle industry volumes, with TVS's own premium business growing 29 per cent over the past two-and-a-half years.
For the festive season, TVS expects high single-digit industry growth, calling the macro picture a mixed bag of below-normal rainfall but healthy reservoir levels and a high base from last year's GST-transition buying.
Shorter waiting periods on the iQube are the practical takeaway, and TVS's expanding service network strengthens the ownership and resale case for its EVs. The next two quarters will be the most competitive this segment has ever been.
