Volkswagen Tayron R-Line India Price — Locally Assembled 7-Seater From ₹47.74 Lakh: Full Lineup Explained

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 19 Sept 2026 · News

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line price in India starts at ₹47.74 lakh for the locally assembled 7-seater, with the 5-seat Life trim from ₹41.99 lakh. Full specs inside.

Volkswagen's Locally Assembled Flagship, Explained

The Tayron is Volkswagen India's flagship SUV and its return to the three-row segment after the Tiguan Allspace was discontinued in 2021. The crucial detail for buyers is how it is built: unlike the fully imported Tiguan, the Tayron is assembled locally from kits at Volkswagen's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra, which is what keeps its pricing competitive in a segment traditionally served by imports. Production began in January 2026, less than a year after the model's global debut.

VariantPrice (ex-showroom)Layout and drivetrain
Tayron Life₹41.99 lakh5-seater, 2.0 TSI EVO 204PS, 7-speed DSG, 4MOTION AWD
Tayron R-Line₹47.74 lakh7-seater, 2.0 TSI EVO 204PS, 7-speed DSG, 4MOTION AWD

Both variants share the EA888 2.0-litre TSI EVO turbo-petrol engine, producing 204 PS and 320 Nm, sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG and Volkswagen's 4MOTION system. Volkswagen claims a 0-100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of around 224 km/h. The Tayron rides on the MQB EVO platform with a 2,789 mm wheelbase — 109 mm longer than the Tiguan's — stretches 4,792 mm long, and offers a 345-litre boot in the R-Line, expandable to 1,905 litres. The five-seat Life variant, added in July 2026 at ₹5.75 lakh less than the R-Line, trades the third row and some sporty trim for the same core mechanical package.

Equipment is generous in both trims: a 15-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, ventilated front seats with a massage function, matrix LED headlamps, nine airbags, Level 2 ADAS and Park Assist Plus. The Tayron lines up against the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Gloster, and local assembly gives it a pricing position those import-dependent rivals find hard to match at the top of the range.

What This Means For You

The Life is the value pick of the pair — the same engine, the same all-wheel-drive system and the same safety kit for ₹5.75 lakh less, if you can live without the third row and the R-Line styling. The R-Line remains the one to have if you regularly carry more than five, and buyers should factor in that locally assembled production has historically meant better parts availability and service costs for VW's India-built models than their imported ones.
