Volvo will launch the EX90 SUV and ES90 sedan in India on 12 October, its flagship electric pair with up to 696km WLTP range and 350kW charging.
Volvo Cars India will launch its two flagship electric models, the EX90 SUV and the ES90 sedan, on 12 October 2026. The pair sits above the existing EX30 and EC40 in Volvo's Indian electric range, and the ES90 marks the brand's return to the luxury sedan space after the S90 was discontinued in 2025. Official India prices, variants and final specifications are still pending, and both cars are widely reported to arrive as fully imported units.
The EX90 is built on Volvo's 800V SPA2 architecture and is offered globally with a 92kWh battery in rear-wheel drive or a 106kWh pack with dual-motor all-wheel drive. The bigger pack makes 456hp and 670Nm in standard form, with a performance version pushing 680hp and 870Nm. It is a genuine three-row SUV, offered as a seven-seater with six-seat layouts on select trims.
The ES90 sedan uses the same platform and battery options but, thanks to a lower body and a claimed 0.25 drag coefficient, out-ranges the SUV on the same pack. Both accept DC charging at up to 350kW, which Volvo says can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in roughly 22 minutes on a capable charger. Inside, a 14.5-inch Google-based touchscreen anchors the cabin, supported by a 9-inch driver's display and a 13.2-inch head-up display on higher trims.
| Model | Battery | Layout | Power | WLTP range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EX90 | 92 kWh | Single motor RWD | 333 hp | 565 km |
| EX90 | 106 kWh | Dual motor AWD | 456 hp | 608 km |
| ES90 | 92 kWh | Single motor RWD | 333 hp | 664 km |
| ES90 | 106 kWh | Dual motor AWD | up to 680 hp | 696 km |
Neither car will be a volume seller, but both expand a fast-growing luxury EV bracket. The EX90 is the family pick with a usable third row, while the ES90 looks easier to live with for city-heavy use given its range advantage and lower expected price. Unofficial estimates put the EX90 at roughly ₹1.40-1.50 crore and the ES90 near ₹1 crore, but treat these as indicative until Volvo announces the real numbers on launch day. Note also that WLTP figures run optimistic against Indian heat and highway speeds, so expect a lower real-world range. Compare the pair against the Kia EV9 and BMW i5 on our Compare page, work out charging economics with the EV calculator, and check the final on-road price once prices are out.
