VinFast has cut the VF MPV 7 by Rs 4.10 lakh to Rs 20.39 lakh, six months after launch, without touching the battery, the 517km range claim or the equipment list.
VinFast has cut the price of the VF MPV 7 to Rs 20.39 lakh, ex-showroom, down from the Rs 24.49 lakh it asked at launch earlier this year. That is a reduction of Rs 4.10 lakh on a car that has been on sale for about six months, and it arrives without any change to the battery, the motor or the equipment list.
Nothing was de-contented to get there. The 60.13 kWh pack stays, the 517km claimed range stays, and so does the seven-seat layout that makes this the most affordable way into a three-row electric MPV in India.
| Model | Body style | Price range (ex-showroom) |
|---|---|---|
| Kia Carens Clavis EV | Three-row electric MPV | Rs 18.04 lakh to Rs 25.00 lakh |
| MG Hector Tomahawk EV | Electric SUV, 5 and 7 seats | Rs 20.25 lakh to Rs 24.25 lakh |
| VinFast VF MPV 7 | Three-row electric MPV | Rs 20.39 lakh |
| Mahindra XEV 9S | Electric SUV | Rs 20.65 lakh to Rs 30.15 lakh |
| BYD eMax 7 | Three-row electric MPV | Rs 27.90 lakh to Rs 29.90 lakh |
The logic of the cut is in that table. At Rs 24.49 lakh the VF MPV 7 sat in a lonely gap, close enough to neither the Kia nor the BYD to be an obvious choice. At Rs 20.39 lakh it is within Rs 2.35 lakh of the Kia's entry price and ahead of the Mahindra and BYD alternatives. It is now a car you have to consider rather than one you have to justify.
The company retailed 2,570 electric cars in October, a 7 per cent share just 15 months after entering India. That looks healthy until you compare it with September, when it sold 3,304. VinFast's volumes fell about 22 per cent month on month in a market that grew 76 per cent year on year.
It sells three models here, the VF 6, the VF 7 and the VF MPV 7, and it is still building a dealer and service network in a country where buyers treat service reach as a buying criterion. A price cut is the fastest lever a new brand has.
If you were considering a three-row electric MPV, the VF MPV 7 has moved from an interesting outsider to a serious shortlist entry in one announcement. Run the numbers on our EV running cost calculator before you decide, because the case for any of these cars depends heavily on your daily distance and your home charging situation.
Two cautions. First, a price cut this size on a six-month-old car tells you the launch price was set for the brochure, not the buyer, so do not assume today's number is the floor. Second, if you already own one, the resale value of your car has just fallen by roughly the amount of the cut. Ask your dealer in writing about price protection before you sign anything, and check the comparison tool against the Carens Clavis EV, which remains the value benchmark in this class.
