Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC Electric in India on 4 November in a single 400 4Matic variant, with a 94 kWh battery, 715 km claimed range and 330 kW charging.
Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC Electric in India on 4 November 2026, and bookings are already open. India gets exactly one variant, the GLC 400 4Matic, and it will be assembled at the company's Chakan plant in Pune rather than imported as a completely built unit. That local assembly is the reason the expected price, widely reported at Rs 80 lakh to Rs 90 lakh ex-showroom, is within reach of the combustion GLC's territory at all.
The early demand signal is worth noting. When Mercedes opened expressions of interest on 5 October, more than 650 came in within 36 hours, for a car expected to cost the better part of a crore on road. That is not a mass market response, but it is a much stronger one than the company would have seen five years ago for an electric SUV at this price.

The 715 km WLTP figure will not survive contact with an Indian highway, and Mercedes knows it. What matters is the charging. At 330 kW, the GLC Electric can add roughly 300 km of range in about ten minutes on a charger that can supply that kind of power, which turns a long drive into a coffee stop rather than a planning exercise. Whether India has enough 300 kW-plus chargers on the routes its customers actually drive is a separate question, and it is the one that will decide how often owners use the car beyond the city.
The cabin is built around a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which Mercedes calls the largest display it has fitted to a car. Air suspension, rear-wheel steering, Level 2 ADAS, 11 airbags and a 360-degree camera suite are part of the package.
The GLC Electric arrives in a market that is finally rewarding premium electric cars with real volume. Electric cars accounted for 8.5 per cent of India's passenger vehicle retail sales in September 2026, with registrations nearly doubling year on year. Tata Motors EV grew 64 per cent in October. The luxury end is smaller but moving in the same direction, and Mercedes has now put an electric SUV into the exact bodyshell, size class and badge that its Indian customers already buy.
The risk is internal. A GLC Electric at Rs 85 lakh sits close enough to the combustion GLC that Mercedes must justify the gap on running costs and driving experience rather than badge value, and the company has spent much of this year arguing that plug-in hybrids remain the better answer for buyers who do long highway runs.
If you are shopping at this price, wait four days for the official figure. The number that decides whether this car works is not the 715 km claim but the on-road price after state EV benefits, which vary sharply between Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat. Run it through the on-road price calculator, compare running costs against a diesel GLC on the EV calculator and check insurance costs.
