Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Launches in India Today — 715 km Range, 330 kW Charging

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 4 Nov 2026 · Launch

Mercedes-Benz launches the locally assembled GLC Electric in India today with 94 kWh, 715 km WLTP range and 330 kW charging, expected at Rs 80-90 lakh.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: The Launch

Mercedes-Benz India launches the GLC Electric today, 4 November, making it the company's most affordable electric SUV in the country until the smaller GLA Electric arrives. The car will be assembled at Mercedes' Chakan plant near Pune, a detail that matters more than it sounds: local assembly is what gives the company room to price the GLC Electric inside a band where Indian luxury buyers actually shop.

The launch is a single-variant affair: Mercedes will sell the GLC 400 4Matic only, at least initially. The exact ex-showroom price is being announced at today's event, with industry expectation at Rs 80 lakh to Rs 90 lakh, helped by local assembly.

What the GLC 400 4Matic Actually Delivers

The hardware is serious. A 94 kWh battery pack feeds one motor on each axle for a combined 489 hp and 800 Nm, sent through a two-speed gearbox. Mercedes claims 0-100 kmph in 4.3 seconds and a 210 kmph top speed, which is a strange set of numbers to read on a family SUV and exactly the point — electric luxury is being sold on effortless acceleration first, efficiency second.

The efficiency number is the headline anyway. Mercedes quotes a WLTP range of up to 715 km, and the car runs an 800V electrical architecture that supports DC charging at up to 330 kW. In plain terms, that is a claimed 10 to 80 percent top-up in roughly 22 minutes, or about 300 km of range in ten minutes at a charger that can actually deliver that wattage.

Inside the Cabin

Mercedes is leaning on the screen. The 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen spans the dashboard, and the cabin adds a panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency, a Burmester 4D sound system with seat exciters, powered front seats with massage, wireless smartphone mirroring, over-the-air updates, an AI assistant and an ADAS suite.

Who It Fights, and Why That Matters

On paper the GLC Electric has no direct rival at launch; the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase is slated for 2027. What Mercedes is really doing is shifting the electric conversation in India from the Rs 1.5 crore bracket, where EVs are statement purchases, down to Rs 80-90 lakh, where buyers compare against a well-specced diesel GLC or a BMW X3.

That comparison is where the numbers get interesting. A diesel GLC owner running 15,000 km a year spends roughly Rs 79,000 on fuel at today's Mumbai diesel price of Rs 97.83 a litre, assuming 18 kmpl. Home-charged electricity for an EV at about Rs 8 a unit and 6 km per unit comes to roughly Rs 20,000 for the same distance. You can run the same comparison yourself on the AUTOINDIA EV running cost calculator, and check how the model stacks up against other luxury SUVs on the compare page.

What This Means for You

If you are shopping in the Rs 80-90 lakh band and your daily driving is predictable, the GLC Electric is now a genuine alternative to a diesel GLC rather than a green gesture. The caveat is the charger, not the car. An 800V, 330 kW-capable SUV is only as quick as the plug in front of it, and India's public network is still thin on high-power DC points outside metro corridors. Buyers with a home charger will get the best of this package; buyers who depend on public charging should wait for Mercedes' charging tie-up details.
