Toyota Innova Hycross Facelift Launch on 25 November — India's First Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid

By AUTOASTRA Editorial · 4 Nov 2026 · Launch

Toyota will launch the Innova Hycross facelift on 25 November, expected to be India's first flex-fuel strong hybrid with styling, screen and software updates.

The Date and the Detail That Matters

Toyota will launch the Innova Hycross facelift in India on 25 November, giving the MPV its first major update since it went on sale in 2022. The styling changes will get the photographs. The important change is under the bonnet, where the strong hybrid powertrain is expected to be reworked to run on higher ethanol blends, potentially making this India's first flex-fuel strong hybrid car.

Toyota is not starting from zero. It showed an ethanol-compatible Hycross hybrid prototype in 2024, built around the same 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle engine and electric motor but engineered for petrol blended with more than 20 percent ethanol. Reports suggest the production facelift will support E30 or higher, though Toyota has not confirmed the maximum blend it will certify here.

What Changes on the Outside and Inside

The facelift should bring a sharper front end with a new grille, sleeker headlamps, revised bumpers and new alloys, plus mild changes at the rear. Inside, expect a larger touchscreen, updated software, revised upholstery and new colours. None of this is radical, and it does not need to be: the Hycross sells on space, comfort and hybrid efficiency, not style.

The open question is whether the non-hybrid 2.0-litre petrol variants also get flex-fuel compatibility. Toyota has not said. That matters for buyers in states where E20 is already standard and higher blends are coming, because a car certified only for E20 cannot legally or mechanically be filled with E85 or E100.

Why Flex-Fuel Is Suddenly Everywhere

Two policy moves have pushed this along. In June 2026, Maruti Suzuki launched the Wagon R Flex Fuel, India's first flex-fuel passenger vehicle, capable of running on blends from E20 to E100. Last month, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules to formally allow E100-capable vehicles, with separate fuel specifications and testing provisions. Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari has since said a Toyota Innova capable of running on 100 percent bioethanol would be launched this month, and that he has been using one for about 18 months at a running cost equivalent to petrol at Rs 25 a litre.

That running-cost claim is the commercial argument. A hybrid that can use a high-ethanol blend combines two savings at once: it recovers energy in traffic, and its fuel is cheaper per kilometre. For taxi and intercity fleet operators who run MPVs hard, that is more compelling than a charging network they cannot rely on.

The November Launch Calendar

The Hycross facelift lands in a busy month, and the spread tells you where the market is heading: an electric luxury SUV, a Chinese luxury brand debut and an electric hatchback, with a flex-fuel hybrid sitting in the middle of them.

What This Means for You

If you are in the market for a seven-seat MPV and your annual running is high, waiting three weeks is the sensible move. A hybrid certified for E30 changes your cost per kilometre for the next eight years, not just your showroom photograph. If you run a fleet, ask Toyota directly at launch which blends the warranty covers. Compare the current Hycross against the competition on the Innova Hycross model page, and run the EMI maths on the AUTOINDIA EMI calculator before you book.
